Main properties of Tool Steels
We cannot draw a clear dividing line between mechanical construction steels and tool steels. Several tool steels are used as elements in mechanical construction, especially in the manufacturing of aircraft and missiles, while mechanical construction steels may also be apt for manufacturing certain tools. However, even regarding the same steel, there are marked differences in the properties required.
For example: In mechanical construction, the most important properties are tensile resistance, temperability and fatigue resistance; while in the case of tool steels, hardness retention both in hot and cold temperatures, toughness and wear resistance are the main properties required
The following is a brief description of the properties of Tool Steels.
